HOW WE WORK WITH YOU

Two different challenges. One engineering partner.

Brownfield operations and greenfield projects require fundamentally different approaches. We’ve structured our delivery model around both – so you get the expertise relevant to your situation, not a generic engagement.

● BROWNFIELD · EXISTING OPERATIONS

Stabilise, automate and optimise what you already have

Your plant is running – but it could run better. Maybe you’re dealing with ageing infrastructure, process variability, rising energy costs or systems that have reached end of life. We identify where you’re underperforming and fix it without stopping the clock on production.

01

Stabilise

Reduce variability and improve control reliability – APC readiness, MPC, PID loop tuning and alarm rationalisation.

02

Automate

Modernise your control systems – PLC, DCS and SCADA upgrades, OT cybersecurity, functional safety and zero-downtime cutover planning.

03

Optimise

Extract more value from existing assets – predictive maintenance, asset health monitoring, bottleneck analysis and performance reporting.

04

Enable

Sustain performance over the long term — digital maturity roadmaps, MPA software, TCard task management and workforce development.

Reduced mill variability by 22% at a copper concentrator, increasing throughput by 8%.

● GREENFIELD · NEW OPERATIONS

Engineer, design and build future-ready operations from day one

Building a new processing facility is a rare opportunity, and a high-stakes one. The decisions made in early project stages have long-term implications for performance, cost and operability. We provide a single, accountable engineering partner from concept through to commissioning.

01

Engineer

Control philosophy, instrumentation strategy and digital architecture – aligned with metallurgical goals from the start.

02

Design

PLC, DCS and SCADA system design, cybersecurity architecture, functional safety, platform selection and E&I drafting.

03

Build

As Main Automation Contractor – vendor coordination, FAT/SAT, system integration and commissioning across full OT scope.

04

Enable

Operational readiness, workforce training, digital infrastructure and ESG monitoring frameworks — so your team is ready from day one.

Achieved first production ahead of schedule as MAC for a major greenfield refinery across multiple vendors.

WHAT WE DO

WHAT WE DO

Built for mineral processing. Not adapted to it.

Our engineers don’t just understand automation – they understand flotation, leaching, crushing, grinding and the specific control challenges that come with each. That depth is what separates us from generalist vendors, and what makes our implementations last.

01 – process control

We know your process, not just your controller

From SAG mill optimisation to flotation cell control and heap leach process management, our engineers understand the mineralogy and process behaviour behind the setpoints. That’s what makes our APC implementations deliver, and continue to deliver after handover.

Flotation SAG / AG milling Heap leach Crushing SX / EW Thickening Smelting

02 – control systems

Platform agnostic. Vendor accredited.

We work across every major control system platform – not because we have preferred vendor agreements, but because your plant may already run any one of them. Our job is to recommend what’s right for your situation and deliver it properly.

Rockwell Siemens ABB Schneider Yokogawa Honeywell

03 – digital and data

Making your process data work for your operation

Historian integration, real-time analytics, predictive maintenance and alarm management – we help processing operations move from reactive to proactive using the data they’re already generating, with our own MPA software suite.

Some common questions we get:

Is Mipac based in North America, or are you an international company trying to break into the market?

Both, in the right sense. Mipac has offices in Tucson and Vancouver (along with Brisbane and Perth, Australia), with project teams working across the US, Canada, and Central America. The broader team comes from nearly 30 years of work in some of the world's most technically demanding mineral processing environments : Australia, Africa, and the Americas. That global depth, delivered locally, is exactly the combination North American operations tend to find useful.

What types of mineral processing operations do you work with in North America?

Copper concentrators, gold and silver processing plants, base metals refineries, and smelters , across both greenfield builds and brownfield sites. We've worked with major operators including Glencore, Freeport-McMoRan and First Quantum Minerals, as well as mid-tier and emerging producers. If it processes ore, we've likely worked in a similar environment.

We already work with Rockwell / Siemens / Honeywell. Why would we need Mipac?

Mipac is vendor-agnostic. We work across all major control platforms, including Rockwell, Siemens, Yokogawa, Schneider, and AVEVA. That means the recommendation you get from us is based on what's right for your operation, not what we're contracted to sell. If your preferred platform is already on site, we can work with it, alongside your vendor, or take the MAC role to make sure the integration actually holds together properly.

Can you help us hit our production targets without a major capital investment?

In most operating plants, the gap between current performance and nameplate capacity isn't a capex problem. It's a control and optimisation problem. Loops running in manual, control systems that haven't been properly tuned since commissioning, poor process visibility at the operator level. Finding and fixing those issues typically costs a fraction of a capital project and delivers results in months, not years.

What does Mipac's involvement look like on a greenfield project?

We can engage at any stage, but the earlier the better. The automation decisions made at concept and FEED stage — control philosophy, platform selection, instrumentation strategy, digital architecture — define how operable and maintainable the plant will be for its entire life. Mipac can take the Main Automation Contractor (MAC) role or work alongside your EPCM, covering everything from functional specifications through to commissioning and operational readiness. The goal isn't just to hit first production. It's to hand over a plant that's genuinely ready to perform.

How is Mipac different from the automation contractors already operating in the North American market?

Most automation contractors work across multiple industries. Mipac works exclusively in mineral processing: concentrators, smelters, refineries, tankhouses, and has done so for nearly 30 years. That means when you describe your problem, we've usually seen it before in a similar circuit, on a similar ore type, with similar constraints. We're also not tied to a single discipline. Our team covers E&I engineering, process control, metallurgy, and digital solutions, which means we see the whole plant rather than just the system in front of us.

Our operation is in a remote location. Can you provide support without being on site full time?

Yes. Remote support is a standard part of how we work: fault diagnosis, control system troubleshooting, APC monitoring, and performance reviews can all be handled remotely, with on-site mobilisation when the problem genuinely requires it. For North American operations, our Tucson and Vancouver teams reduce travel time and time zone friction significantly compared to working with an offshore partner.
